Our cars are our pride and joy. Putting a little bit of extra care or effort into maintaining its mechanics and appearance on a regular basis will mean you're less likely to be hit by hefty repair bills in the future and keep it looking good in the long run. As the warmer months roll around again, it's a good idea to spend a little bit of extra time caring and maintaining your car's mechanics and appearance.

While maintaining a regular car service schedule is critical to keep your car healthy, you can also tick off some items by yourself. Our partners at Repco have a wide selection of car parts, accessories and lubricants to help you keep your car looking at its best, but also enhance your everyday driving experience. NRMA Members also enjoy a discount on select products.

Engine oil

The engine oil in your vehicle acts as a lubricant for all the moving parts., allowing the major components to move freely and easily. It's vital that you check and replace your engine oil regularly or top-up when necessary. Check your vehicle owner's manual for the correct specification and amount you need. Oil is a readily available product at most auto accessory stores and service stations.

Windscreen wiper blades

Are your wipers skipping and hopping across your windscreen? As windscreen wipers are continually exposed to heat, frost, dirt, insects and other airborne objects, the blades deteriorate over time and lose their effectiveness. It is imperative to have a clear and unimpeded view when driving which is why it’s important to maintain and replace your wiper blades regularly.

Dash cams

Dash cams are a fun way to record your driving adventures but they are also a handy tool if you get into trouble on the road. Whether you see someone doing something they shouldn't, or you've had an accident and need to provide evidence to your insurer, dash cams are a useful accessory for motorists and you can find them at any good auto accessory store.

Sunshades

Australians are used to harsh summers, but this doesn't mean your vehicle has to be a hot box after parking in the sun. Investing in a good sunshade can reflect a huge volume of sunlight and heat away from your vehicle during the sunny months, allowing for a far more pleasant experience the moment you step into your car. It also means you don't have to battle it out for the shady parking on the street.

Seat covers and floor mats

Dirty, worn floors and seats in a car, are a telltale sign that it may not be being looked after regularly. Floor mats and seat covers help prevent wear and tear of your car's interior as well as being far easier to clean. By taking the brunt of the wear, the covers and mats, protect the materials underneath meaning you won't have to do any work restoring them later down the track.

Car cleaning products

Dirt, pollen, bird droppings and normal road build up are some of the many things that can prevent your ride from looking its best. Auto care products like wash, wax, and polishes will save you from having to do expensive detailing but also keep your car looking at it it's best. Instead of constantly spending both time and money at the car wash, you can arm yourself with an array of affordable products that will keep your car in pristine condition. Microfibre cloths, buckets, brushes and cleaning solutions are cheap, last a long time and make cleaning your car easy.
