MG slashes EV prices nationwide

MG slashes EV prices nationwide

MG is shaking up EV market with major discounts and nationwide pricing for the MG ZS EV, and MG4 series, including the XPOWER.

Previously, buyers purchasing the MG ZS EV, MG4 or MG4 Xpower had to add on-road costs to MG’s recommended pricing. In a bold move to make EVs more accessible to Australians, MG has now slashed prices by up to $9,000 on its electric models, and on-road costs are included in MG’s pricing, making them the most affordable they’ve been since their debut in 2020.

New MG ZS EV driveaway pricing

Now, MG is offering the MG4 51kWh Excite and ZS EV Excite models at under $40k drive-away: the entry-level 51kWh ZS EV Excite with 320km WLTP range, which previously was priced from $44,990 before on-roads, now starts from $39,990 driveaway.

In addition to this, the MG ZS EV Essence model, which also has a 51kWh battery, is priced at $42,990 driveaway down from $47,990 before on-roads.

Lastly, the long range Essence variant, which has a 77kWH battery and offers up to 440km WLTP range, sees a major cut from $55,990 before on-roads to $46,990 driveaway.

The price adjustments reflect MG's strategy to bolster EV adoption amidst increasing competition and to challenge the misconceptions around electric mobility.

The brand's price cut crusade extends to the MG4 Electric as well, which has nabbed numerous awards for its blend of European design, engineering quality, and safety, evidenced by its 5-star ANCAP rating.

In a market where customers are becoming increasingly aware of their finances, providing transparency on the final cost customers will pay for buying an EV and for servicing is very important.

New MG4 and Xpower driveaway pricing

The 2023 MG4 51kWh Excite – which previously cost $38,990 plus on-road costs – is now priced at $39,990 driveaway.

The 2023 MG4 64kWh Excite is now priced at $44,990 driveaway, effectively absorbing all on-road costs, and the 2023 MG4 64kWh Essence is now priced at $46,990 driveaway, where it previously cost $47,990 before on-roads.

The range-topping 2023 MG4 XPOWER also benefits from the price cuts. It is now priced at $59,990 driveaway, where it previously cost $59,990 plus on-road costs.

All models also come with capped-price service program that locks in maintenance costs for the first seven years. This transparency in pricing, both in purchasing and servicing, aims to eliminate any financial surprises for new EV owners .

The new drive-away pricing is effective from March 22, 2024, making it an opportune time for Australians to consider making the switch to electric.

MG supports New Vehicle Efficiency Standard

MG's price revision and drive-away pricing strategy also signals a broader commitment to sustainable mobility.

As it confirmed last Friday, it is backing the government’s preferred option B of the New Vehicle Efficiency Standard, which aims to encourage carmakers to bring a mix of cleaner, more efficient vehicles to market.

In a statement, MG Australia CEO Peter Ciao said: “With majority of the international car market already covered by fuel efficiency standards, we are fully supportive of Australia’s move to help provide consumers with cleaner and more affordable cars to own and run.”

“The standard is a win for customers with rising costs of living and a win for our extensive dealer network who can do their bit to reduce emissions in their local communities in line with Australia’s commitment to decarbonise,” he added.
